Olive Black's musical odyssey is deeply personal in nature. Her story doesn't just revolve around music, but is a profound tale about the resilience, healing and catharsis that art can bring to life's deepest wounds. Her new EP, “Reflectō”, embodies this story. With a blend of electro-pop, dark-pop and R&B, Olive Blackexplores the human condition unvarnished.
Olive Black's journey as an artist began with trauma. After surviving an abusive relationship, the Swiss-born musician, who grew up in Austin, Texas, embarked on a journey. After a painful break-up, she settled in Switzerland. It was here, in her newfound solitude and foreign surroundings, that Olive began to write and record music. What began as a therapeutic escape from her demons soon turned into a means of overcoming the trauma she had suffered. It was time to tell her own story, marked by a tumultuous past in which police violence, racism and prejudice play an important role in the United States.
The artist has teamed up with Zurich-based producer Ephrem Lüchinger and has a home studio in Oberriet (SG), where she records her vocals. Olive Black writes and co-produces songs, and her music is the expression of raw emotions that often venture into uncomfortable areas, and which she always renders with authenticity.
Following the release of her debut EP Interitus (“destruction” in Latin) in November 2023, Olive Black's new EP, Reflectō (“reflection” in Latin), will be released on November 21. All songs were written by Olive Black and co-produced by Ephrem Lüchinger.
