Born and raised in the working-class neighborhoods of
Miami, Marquise Fair is an artist whose
journey is as captivating as his music.
Raised by his grandmother, who played a central role
in his life, Marquise found in the gospel choir at church an escape
from the violence of the streets. These moments allowed him to
develop a deep connection with music, a passion that would never
leave him.
It was at the age of 22 that Marquise took his
first concrete steps in music, when he
received his first guitar. Armed with this
instrument and a notebook full of ideas, he
began to compose and sing solo,
mixing his powerful voice and his lyrics full of
sincerity with melodies that resonated with
his experiences. His trajectory took a decisive turn in 2018
when he met a Swiss artist in
Miami, who recommended that he contact David
Wehren, a renowned Swiss producer and drummer.
Impressed by Marquise’s potential, David
invited her to Switzerland to finance and co-produce
her first album, “RIPPLE” mixed by Philippe
Weiss (Madonna, Salah Sue, Black Coffee…)
Marquise participated in American Idol that same
year.
The launch of her first album in 2020
could have marked the beginning of a world tour. However, the
pandemic abruptly slowed down her stage ambitions. Far from
letting herself down, Marquise Fair used this period to deepen her
writing and get closer to her musical roots. He turned this forced hiatus into an opportunity for reflection, creating more intimate and introspective
songs that explore themes of resilience, love and hope.!
During this period, Marquise continued to collaborate with David, whose vision and expertise
helped him polish his craft. Together, they recorded several demos that would become the basis
of his second album. Inspired by Miami’s rich culture and Swiss landscapes, Mark
crafted a unique sound, blending the warm rhythms of his hometown with
modern and innovative arrangements.!
With Better World, set for 2025, Marquise Fair brings together musicians from around the world,
recording from their home studios during the pandemic. The album highlights prestigious collaborations, notably with Jason Lindner (David Bowie's Blackstar, Meshell
Ndegeocello, Lauryn Hill), Yosvany Terry Sax and arrangements (Eddie Palmieri, Steve
Coleman, Ruben Blades), Jacques Schwarz-Bart saxophone and arrangement (D'Angelo's Voodoo, Erykah Badu, Roy Hargrove).
