To Zürich-based singer-songwriter Jamila, making space for vulnerability and self-reflection is the whole point of songwriting. From a young age, she had a strong interest in music and songwriting, but found it difficult to imagine her songs living anywhere else other than in the safe space of her Zurich bedroom. It was only recently that she found the courage to invite others in and share her music.
In April 2023, her first official single ,Indifferent' was released, promptly making its way into the daily program of the Swiss National Radio SRF3. This wasn't entirely surprising, as Jamila's music often reminds listeners of established artists like Lorde or Taylor Swift. Her subsequent debut EP ,Fadeout' is a journey into personal, emotional soundscapes that invite both dancing and crying. Thematically, the rising singer explored the ins and outs of becoming an adult, anxiety, romantic relationships and heartbreak. ,Fadeout' layed the foundation for a promising career of an artist who possesses an incredible sense for emotionally profound pop music. Her latest single "Dynamite" shows her musical evolution of the last year: The lyrics explore the dynamics of a relationship where words act as weapons. The songs emotional depth is accentuated by wistful guitars and synthesizers.
Armed with new songs and a growing amount of stage experience, including being the opening act on LEILA'S Burnout tour and gracing exciting venues such as Zurich's ,Exil Cub' and Bern's ,Dachstock', Jamila is set for a year of making a lot of noise, both on and off stage.
