Zafîf ("noise of the wind" in Arabic) is an innovative musical adventure, at the crossroads of European, Maghreb and Turkish-Arab cultures. Formed in 2016, in Geneva, the band likes Zafîf likes to create confusion through hybrid compositions, mixing different styles just enough to bring out each one’s specificities. Overlapping the sounds of oud, the guembri, the saz, percussions and a synthesizer, an original texture emerges. Interweaving Gnawa rhythms, Arab and Anatolian melismas, funk, rock and psyche-blues.
Through our compositions we swing between Rock, blues-psyche, hypnotic funk,… mixed with traditional Maghrebia,Turkish and Yemeni music Preaching repetition until hypnosis, Zafîf delivers an introspective trance in an all-out tribute to John Lee Hooker, Deep Purple, Massive Attack, with the constant presence of former Gnawa and Yemeni masters.
