Shanga is a Nigerian-Swiss singer-songwriter whose unique sound blends Afro-rhythmic influences, hip-hop lyricism, and soulful melodies. With a silky voice, she seamlessly alternates between singing and rapping, showcasing her artistic versatility.
Raised between Bern, Switzerland and Lagos, Nigeria, Shanga experienced the vibrant contrasts of her Nigerian and Swiss heritage. Her artistic upbringing, influenced by her father, a fine artist and African drummer, and her mother, an art gallery owner, nurtured her deep appreciation for music.
After learning guitar, she enhanced her skills at an audio engineering school in Hamburg, Germany, which empowered her to realize her artistic vision fully. In 2013, she released her first EP, “embracing vulnerability,” performing acoustically across France, Germany, Switzerland and Nigeria, marking her entry into the music scene.
Now collaborating with her producer spouse, Shanga explores genres like Jazz, Afro, Rap, Neo-Soul, and Gospel, evident in her album debut album "Bold". Her upcoming sophomore album Bold II, set to launch in 2025, promises to build on her previous successes, continuing the sonic mood of the previous project. Drawing comparisons to legends like Sade and Ms. Lauryn Hill, Shanga is an emerging artist to watch in Afro-rhythmic soul.
